The Ultimate DIY Fluid Bed Powder Paint Station
Title: The Ultimate DIY Fluid Bed Powder Coating Station for Jig Makers
If you've ever struggled with messy powder coating, clumpy jig heads, or frustrating setups, you're not alone. At Heartland Makes, we’ve been working behind the scenes to create a better, more efficient way to powder coat your fishing jigs. Today, we're excited to introduce our Fluid Bed Powder Coating Station, now available in our shop. Whether you’re a seasoned lure maker or just starting your jig painting journey, this station is designed to help you work cleaner, faster, and with more consistent results.
Why We Built It
As small-batch makers who sell everything from leather goods to fishing gear, we know the value of tools that just work. Last season, we prepped hundreds of powder-coated jig heads in advance of fall fishing and deer hunting season. But like many DIYers, we ran into a persistent problem: humidity and powder clumping.
We knew there had to be a better way.
After months of prototyping and refining, we developed a two-cup modular system that:
Keeps powder dry with screw-on storage caps and desiccant packs
Simplifies color switching without cross-contamination
Tames messy airflow with controlled PSI and back-facing hose routing
Accepts both DIY coffee filters or pre-cut disc filters
What's Included in the Kit:
Each Fluid Bed Powder Coating Station includes:
(1) Stable, anti-tip base station
(2) Modular powder cups with threaded bottoms and lids
(2) Pre-installed filter discs
(2) Screw-on storage caps for humidity control
Optional air tubing + splitter setup
(1) Extra Cup with lid on the top and bottom for additional powder color
It’s everything you need to get started or upgrade your existing powder coating bench.
How to Assemble Your Fluid Bed Station
Assembly is simple and takes just a couple of minutes:
Attach Air Tubing: Connect the included tubing from your air pump through the back of the base station. Each hose routes under the powder cup.
Install the Powder Cups: Drop the powder cups into the recessed base holders. They’re snug-fitting for stability.
Add Powder: Spoon in a small amount of powder (1–2 tablespoons per cup). Level it gently.
Adjust Air Flow: Use low PSI (1–3 psi) to lightly “boil” the powder. If powder shoots up, lower the pressure.
Start Dipping: Heat your jig head, dip it into the fluidized powder, then cure as recommended by your powder supplier.

Best Practices for Jig Painting
Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear a dust mask and eye protection!
Use a dedicated toaster oven for curing jigs — never use your kitchen oven
Store unused powder in the cups with screw-on bottoms and desiccant packs inside
For multi-color work sessions, order extra cups so you can pre-load powders and swap quickly
